Airline uses free iPods to lure travellers

A transatlantic airline is giving away iPods in order to lure and retain customers, according to an announcement. Eos Airlines says that between today and April 11th, people booking flights between New York and London will be eligible for some form of free iPod, depending on ticket prices. Those spending $4,000 or less on a round trip can secure either an iPod nano, or 15,000 points for Eos services; if the tickets cost more than $4,000, people can pick an iPod classic, or 30,000 points.

Eos is a business-oriented airline, and flies mainly between New York City's JFK International and London's Stansted Airport. Luxury flights include travel on 757s with just 48 suites, each of which has its own full-length bed.

do they really think that business people who can spend that kind of money for a ticket are going to 'wooed' by a $300 electronic device?

Now, if it was a device you could use when the plane was taxiing, taking off, and landing, sure. But since no one has figured a way to make avionics work without being fritzed by some kid playing a gameboy.

(And we won't let people board a plane if they put 4oz of shampoo in a gallon sized ziploc bag within a carry-on bag, but no problem allowing people to board planes with all sorts of electronic gadgets that apparently can cause them to nosedive into the ocean.

Just no one tell the terrorists! Or, maybe, if we could just get the flight attendants and pilot to tell passengers to turn off their electronic devices, stow their bombs, holster their guns, sheathe their knives, and put away their nefarious liquids, we wouldn't have to worry about searching for those, too.
